The diagram shows the design of the base plate for the saddle. It is similar to that of the headstock & tailstock and features a stepper motor drive to control its position along the bed. The machine is shown in elevation with the motors fitted in the sketch below:
Sufficient space has been allowed on the saddle to allow the mounting of various components including burners, a power cross slide and a vertical slide. These assets are useful when a system has to be developed to carry out a short run of similar operations to generate a batch of products.
